  • Will I learn how to do stylized art such as American Comic, Manga and Super Deformation?

    Yes, definitely. Stylization however is only a final layer on top of fundamental art knowledge, and this is covered more in-depth in the final term. Depending on what projects are done in each term, students may be required to adapt their styling to meet the needs of the project, and training and guidance will be given for each assignment.

  • What is the average day like at DAS?

    In the 4 hour morning or afternon slots, students have lectures where Art Directors train on various subject matter using live demos on projectors as well as other training material. DAS presents a virtual studio environment for students, and assignments are focused on developing artwork for both fictional and real-world games, films and other media.

  • What are the main things I would learn at DAS?

    Primarily, students will be equipped with fundamental and advanced skills and techniques that will enable them to work as conceptual artists and pre-visualization artists within the film, game and media industries. We focus on teaching the elementary principles, through to advanced rendering, enabling students to create characters, vehicles, creatures, structures, environments, scenes, and much more.

Fees and Payment

  • What are the payment terms?
    As per the Master Student Agreement, Section 6.3, Payment Options are as below:
     
    If you require alternative payment arrangements, please do contact us and we will strive to accommodate you. 

    Course fees may be paid in full 30 days prior to course commencement, or alternatively in 3 separate payments as detailed below:

    • An initial payment of 60% (ZAR) 30 days before course commencement

    • A second payment of 30% (ZAR) Within 3 months of course commencement, and no later.

    • A final payment of 10% (ZAR) within 6 months of course commencement, and no later.

    • All fees are to be paid via Electronic Funds Transfer (EFT) into the designated bank account (see below)

    • Notification will be sent reminding split-payment applicants to pay their second and final payments.

    • An invoice for fees will be issued once course application is successful, and all payments will receive a receipt of payment sent via email once payment is received.

  • What is the registration fee for?

    The registration fee is required in order to register. This fee covers the costs of processing the application.

    Production Design, sometimes also called Entertainment Design, Conceptual Design, or Pre-Visualization, is the pre-production process of visualizing creative assets for use in a production. It encompasses creating visual artworks, illustrations and designs that explore and inform what worlds, places, characters, creatures, scenes, machines and more look like, in the production. Productions may include films, games, applications, visual media and more.
